We're delighted you're planning a visit to us at Acton Scott Heritage Farm. Here are some frequently asked questions to help you plan your day.

General Information

What are your opening times? Acton Scott Heritage Farm is open from 10am-4.30pm on weekends and bank holidays, and Wednesday to Sunday during Shropshire school holidays. Please check our website or social media for the most up-to-date opening hours and any seasonal variations.

Do you close for Winter? The Farm will close from Monday 3 November 2025 and reopen again for Easter 2026. During this time, there will be Seasonal events and celebrations which will be advertised online and via the mailing list.

Where are you located? We are located in the beautiful Shropshire Hills, near Church Stretton, just off the A49 . Our full address is: Acton Scott Heritage Farm, Acton Scott, Church Stretton, Shropshire, SY6 6QN.

How do I get there? We are easily accessible by car from Ludlow, Church Stretton, and the wider Shropshire area. Please follow brown tourist signs once you are in the vicinity. Free parking is available on-site. We encourage visitors to consider sustainable travel options where possible.

Do I need to book tickets in advance? While it’s not always essential, we highly recommend booking your tickets online in advance, especially during peak times and school holidays. This helps us manage visitor numbers and ensures a smoother entry for you.

What is the admission price? Please refer to our Plan Your Visit page for current admission prices, including 2025 Season ticket information. Your ticket purchase directly supports the charitable work of Acton Scott Heritage Farm.

Is the Farm accessible for visitors with disabilities? We strive to make the farm as accessible as possible. Our main pathways are generally suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, though some areas may be uneven due to the nature of a working farm, such as cobble stones in the farmyard. Accessible toilets are available. There are plenty of quiet spaces around the site. Please contact us in advance if you have specific accessibility requirements, and we will do our best to assist you.

Can I hire a wheelchair or mobility scooter? Yes, we have a wheelchair and tramper which can be hired. Please message contact@ashf.org.uk to organise this with us in advance of your visit.

Does the Farm have baby changing facilities? Yes, there are baby change facilities at the reception building and cafe.

During your Visit

What can I see and do at the farm? You can interact with our costumed volunteers and demonstrators, explore our traditional farm buildings, meet our rare breed animals (including Shire horses, Shropshire sheep, Dairy Shorthorn cattle, Dorking hens and Gloucester Old Spot pigs), and witness demonstrations of traditional farming techniques and rural crafts. We have a daily programme of activities, so check the board on arrival or our Facebook page for what’s happening during your visit.

Is there anything to do if it rains? Yes, there are lots of indoor spaces to explore around the farmyard.

Are there animals to pet? While you’ll get to see many of our animals up close, for their welfare and your safety, direct petting is not permitted at Acton Scott Heritage Farm. Please follow all signage and instructions from our team regarding animal interactions.

Can I feed the animals? No, please do not feed our animals. They are on a specific diet to ensure their health and well-being.

Is there a café on site? Yes, The Acton Scott Farm Café , located in The Old School House, offers a delicious range of hot and cold food, drinks, and cakes. This is open from 10.30am until 4pm when the Farm is open to Visitors. You can find a menu on our Facebook page

Can I visit the café without visiting the Farm? Currently, the café is only available to visitors with a paid ticket. However, there are plans to change this in the future. Sign up to our mailing list to learn when this changes.

Can I bring a picnic? Absolutely! We have dedicated indoor and outdoor picnic areas where you can enjoy your own food.

Is there a gift shop? Yes, our gift shop offers a range of local traditional crafts, farm-themed gifts, and souvenirs, perfect for remembering your visit.

Are dogs allowed? For the safety and welfare of your pet and our animals, dogs are not allowed on the Farm. Only assistance dogs are permitted.

What should I wear? As a working farm, pathways can be uneven and muddy, especially in wet weather where cobble stones can become slippery. We recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes suitable for walking. Layers of clothing are also advisable to adapt to changing weather conditions.

How long does a typical visit take? Most visitors spend between 2 to 3 hours exploring the farm, depending on their level of interest and participation in activities.

Group Visits & Education

Do you cater for school visits? We are currently working on our educational programme, aimed at students of all ages. Contact us if you are interested in speaking to a member of the team.

Do you run workshops or courses? We are currently developing a programme of workshops and courses across a range of disciplines, including traditional rural and endangered skills, and craft workshops throughout the year. Keep an eye on our website for upcoming dates and booking information.

Can I organise a private group tour or activity? Yes, we run guided tours and group activities both on days we are open to the public and during the week. Please message contact@ashf.org.uk to speak to a member of our team sharing your preferred dates, group size, and group age / interest level so that we can best support you.

Do you have coach parking? We have room for two coaches. Please advise in advance of your visit so that we can reserve this for you.

Support & Volunteering

How can I support Acton Scott Heritage Farm? As an independent charity, your support is vital! You can support us by visiting, making a donation or volunteering your time and skills. Please see our Support Us page for more details.

Do you have volunteering opportunities? Yes, we rely heavily on our wonderful volunteers. We have various roles available, from helping with livestock care to guiding visitors in period costume or assisting with events. Head to our Volunteering page to find out more.

Private Events, Venue Hire & Filming

Can I hire a barn, room or area on the Farm? Yes, we have indoor and outdoor spaces and barns available to hire for either ½ day, full day or as a regular meeting space. We have workshop facilities, heated barns, tea and coffee making facilities, a projector, kitchen space, as well as chairs and tables available for use.
